The Who, When, How of Riding Lessons at Liz Bolton Stables
Here are a few suggestions for helmets and gloves:
Liz Bolton Stables focuses on Saddle Seat riding, but teaches a balanced, basic seat that can be developed to win a World
Championship or used to enjoy riding on a leisure basis.
WHO will teach me? We have a great team of qualified instructors. Whether it is your first time riding or you are looking to polish your show skills, we have an instructor to suit your needs.
WHEN are lessons taught?
Summer Group Lesson Schedule:
Thursdays (Makeup Day)
Private Lesson Schedule:
Private lessons are available Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays from 8am-5pm. Please call or text Julie to set up private lessons (858) 449-3286
Riding Boots: We recommend zip front paddock boots. These boots have a heel of 1/2 inch to 1 inch tall, which keeps the foot from sliding through the stirrup. Boots also help protect the foot from injury when getting stepped on by a horse. These boots support the riders ankle and prevent dirt and shavings from getting in their shoes.
HOW long do I ride? All of our are 30 minutes of in the saddle riding time. If you would like to help care for your horse before and after your lesson, it is encouraged but not required.
Are lessons group or private? We do not differentiate between group and private lessons. We believe there are strong benefits to both. You can be an excellent parking lot driver, but at some point you need to drive on the freeway. Similarly, driving on a busy street isn’t the best time to learn how to parallel park. Group lessons versus one on one instruction will depend on what you are currently working on and the time of your lesson.
Each package must be used within 4 consecutive weeks. Want to add lessons to your package? You can add single lessons to your package for the same pro-rated price as your package.
How do I pay? Checks or cash are our preferred method of payment. Credit cards are accepted through our online system. Payment is due on the day of your lesson and/or the first day of each package.
For you first few lessons, we require long pants (leggings, jeans, etc.) and closed toe (boots are great, but tennis shoes are acceptable). Helmets are required. We have plenty to borrow. As with any sport, once you make the decision to continue taking lessons on a routine basis, we recommend you get the proper equipment.
Here is what we recommend, in order of importance:
Cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to your lesson or you forfeit the cost of the lesson. Lessons cancelled more than 24 hours in advance may be made up on any Make Up day (Thursday) during your 4 week session. If Liz Bolton Stables cancels your lesson due to rain, horse show, etc., your cancelled lesson will roll over to the following week.
